In 2010, as a student at ENSCI (École Nationale Supérieure de Céramique Industrielle), I had the opportunity to join the FIRE program and spend six months at the Nagoya Institute of Technology, working on the fabrication and characterization of complex carbide refractories.

From one network to another

I discovered the world of ceramics when I arrived at the ENSCI (the national engineering school for industrial ceramics) in Limoges, France, in 2004. I quickly became fascinated by refractory materials: these discreet but essential ceramics, without which many of the materials we use today simply could not exist.

Academic life is a continuous cycle of learning, discovering and transmitting knowledge. I entered this dance in 2014 when I came across refractories in the first semester of my Bachelor's in Materials Engineering, by joining the research group led by Professor Victor Carlos Pandolfelli at the Federal University of São Carlos. That decision shaped my professional career. High temperature materials were my entrance to discovering three passions: the scientific method, computational simulations, and advanced experimental tests.

My journey in the world of refractories began in the second year of my undergraduate studies, when I joined GEMM, the laboratory of Professor Victor Pandolfelli. That early experience sparked a passion that has guided me for more than ten years and brought me to the other side of the world.

Igniting a Career: My Path from FIRE Education to the Refractory Sector.

Without the FIRE network, I would probably never have achieved, let alone started, such a fulfilling career in the world of refractories.

FIRE internship was my first experience abroad.

Humans have been gathering around fire for hundreds of thousands of years — for warmth, protection, food, and simply to talk. In a funny way, my own career also began around “fire,” just a far more engineered version of it. I first heard about FIRE during my Master’s in São Carlos, Brazil, thanks to Prof. Pandolfelli. I joined without imagining that this decision would quietly shape my entire professional path.
