As the world navigates climate and energy transitions, strong partnerships between industry and academia are more important than ever. In the refractory field, sustainability means not only developing materials for high-temperature applications, but also ensuring the sustainable processing of these materials.
This is where FIRE plays a unique role.
By connecting generations, fostering international collaboration, and inspiring young students to become the game changers of tomorrow, FIRE helps shape the future of science and technology for high-temperature industries. What makes FIRE truly special is that it goes beyond networking. It has become a global refractory family where ideas grow into innovations and professional connections evolve into lasting friendships.
I am especially proud that the Institute of Ceramics, Refractories and Composite Materials in Freiberg has been a member of FIRE for the past 20 years. Through this vibrant community and its strong links with experts across the ceramic disciplines, FIRE creates an exceptional chain of knowledge exchange around the world.
Together, we have the opportunity to show that refractories are not only the hidden heroes of industry. They are key enablers in addressing today's climate, energy, and sustainability challenges.
A heartfelt thank you to FIRE and my many FIRE friends across the globe for the inspiration, collaboration, and friendship over the years.

Highlight of the members of the Board of Directors - Victor Carlos Pandolfelli
My journey with FIRE began in 2003, together with Prof. Michel Rigaud and other academic and industrial colleagues. In 2005, our first official meeting in Limoges, France, transformed this vision into reality. From the beginning, FIRE was founded on a strong belief in cooperation between universities and industry towards a better education. Its strength has always come from working across institutional, cultural, and national borders.
